Meet Captain Bill Koch
Captain Bill Koch has been on the waters of Lake Michigan since 1968, starting as a young angler with a passion for fishing. Over the decades, his hobby evolved into a full-time career as a guide, built on years of hands-on experience and deep knowledge of the lake’s unique freshwater ecosystems. Bill’s expertise covers every corner of Lake Michigan, from seasonal salmon runs to the best spots for trout and trophy fish, making him a trusted resource for anglers of all skill levels.
Bill specializes in guiding trips for Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Brown Trout, combining local knowledge with proven techniques to ensure consistent results. He approaches each trip with patience and precision, teaching guests how to read the water, adjust trolling speeds, and understand seasonal fish behavior. His calm, approachable style makes even first-time anglers feel confident while learning the intricacies of Milwaukee, WI freshwater salmon fishing.
Over the years, Bill has earned a reputation for professionalism and reliability. Unlike guides who focus on the clock, he prioritizes time on the water, ensuring that each trip maximizes fishing opportunities. His experience includes everything from short half-day excursions to extended full-day outings, allowing him to adapt to changing conditions and provide a seamless, productive experience for every guest. Many repeat clients credit him not just for big catches, but for the insight, storytelling, and mentorship he brings to every outing.
The Boat
Trips with Captain Bill take place aboard a 28-foot Luhrs sportfishing boat (2008) powered by twin 640 HP inboard gasoline engines. The vessel is designed specifically for Great Lakes trolling, offering stability, comfort, and safety while navigating Lake Michigan’s waters. With a maximum capacity of six guests, the boat is perfect for families, friends, or small groups seeking a personalized fishing experience. Fully equipped for salmon and trout fishing, it allows Captain Bill to focus on teaching, guiding, and helping anglers land fish without compromise on comfort or efficiency.
